Sevillanas with Flor Perez
Sevillanas is believed to be an old Castilian folk dance (Seguidilla) and did not originate from Seville as its name suggests.
It is a very popular dance for couples of all ages.
Sevillanas is *not* Flamenco or Paso Doble, although it has similar movements and styling because all three are Spanish dances. It has a definite form: each of the four Sevillanas in a set contains its own three verses (coplas). The guitar sets the mood with an introductory rhythmic section in 3/4 time and then the singer begins a short introduction called a salida to signal the beginning of the first verse.
This class is a great introduction to the Spanish dances. No partner is required. Verses may be performed in a small group or circle. As interest grows, this class may move forward to a Flamenco class.

Flor began dancing in the tablaos of Buenos Aires in 1995. In 2000, Flor formed her own group, which debuted in the show Rojo Flamenco . She was responsible for the artistic direction and general production. In 2001, Flor moved to New York to continue her performing career.
Flor continues to explore her interest in producing and directing flamenco shows, bringing the Rojo Flamenco concept to venues such as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. In 2003, shortly after moving to Madrid, Flor created the concept "Juglar x Flamenco" , a project were the main focus is giving an foreign dance students or(dancers with little experience) a plateau to exhibit. Up to this moment the project has proved to be very succesful for a very diverse croud. In 2006, Flor performed in the well-known and respected tablao "Las Carboneras among others.
She now lives in Maryland with her family, sharing her knowledge and love of the Spanish dances with our community.
